Amidst the rubble of a war not long past, the stars seek to raise a new generation. Blessed with celestial powers that have begun to make their reappearance, the Gifted are individuals whose shoulders the future of the city rests on. Will you overthrow the dysfunctional government or work to keep it in power? Or will you undermine the whole game and play to your own advantage? No matter your motives, Hyperion is yours to shape.
Altair is the type of guy who has five thousand friends on Facebook but only regularly speaks to five of them. Chances are high that if you're in the inner districts, you've run across him at some point. Whether he's the guy who stumbles into your bar and strikes up a conversation about the best types of drinks, or you've seen him in passing while walking through a park - chances are you know him, but you don't really know him. In saying that, I'd still like him to have a few close friends. People with boundless optimism to counter his natural pessimism, people who know how to navigate a conversation rife with mines - people who contrast against him but aren't so dissimilar that they have literally nothing to talk about with him. I think he'd probably be a bit less on his guard around younger people, whereas other working adults will likely be treated with a distant politeness until he's more comfortable with them. But hey, we can also skip all that work and have them just be old friends - if you're interested in this idea, let me know, as the person he is now is the complete opposite of who he was in college.
romances
Not really looking for a straight-up romance for him right now, but he's definitely the type of guy you go home with after a few drinks at the bar. He's open to all genders and appearances, so feel free to throw him in as some free padding if your character is lacking in the sexual experience section of their CV. He'd also be good for unrequited crushes - maybe after a one-night stand that turned into three and then was cut off by him? As he grows I'll consider opening him up to a real relationship but for now I'd prefer to focus on getting him some friends.
enemies
Just because of how he plays the game, it's hard to have him as a true enemy. He knows better than to respond to outright aggression, and he's relatively skilled at brushing off barbs and backhanded compliments. He's also the perfect guy for your character to hate on, because he can easily come across as fake. I've set him up specifically as a villian for this roleplay, so I'm willing to work with you to figure out just how he can be the antagonist in your character's life.
Got my mind on melancholy Now I'm fading color purple
Considering what a snappy little bastard he is, good luck making friends with him. This isn't to say that he's outright rude, but his tone always borders on caustic, and this makes it difficult for people to view him in a friendly light. He does, however, have a weakness for food - slowly winning his trust through a steady supply of treats and meals is a good way to come into his favor. But even when you are his friend, you'll quickly find his sarcasm doesn't stop - he's just more teasing with it, more willing to smile instead of scowl. I'd love for him to get some friends, but I also recognize that he's difficult to approach, so I'm more than willing to work out details of possible childhood friends, people he's kind-of-sort-of friends with in college, and similar things.
romances
God help him. Actually getting him into romance will be tricky. It's either going to be a slow-burn with a friend he already has or it'll be one of those sudden love-at-first-encounter style things. Not to say he'd immediately melt into a puddle of goo, even when he did realize his feelings. He's incredibly inexperienced, and that'd likely show through in sudden meekness and teenage misunderstandings. But once he decides on someone, he's not the type to give up; he'll struggle to learn how to properly communicate his feelings, he'll read through dozens of love-advice blogs, and when it comes down to it, he'll swallow his pride if that's what he has to do.
enemies
Are you someone planning to destroy Hyperion or otherwise involve innocents in your harmful plans? Congrats, you're immediately on his shit list. Beyond that, he isn't the type to immediately label someone an enemy just because he dislikes them - because he dislikes a lot of people. Sorry about that! Even without being his enemy, he's naturally combative, however. But, yeah, I don't have a great many plans set up for his enemies right now. If you have some ideas, hit me up?
i'm no fool, no, i'm not a follower don't tell me what can't be done
Welp I don't have a pretty plot reply temp but I guess that's how it goes -shrug emoticon-
Alright so if Altair is a psychiatrist and Cameron is a doctor they could have totally known each other during college ? Though there is a two yeardifference but it’ll work somehow, and then they could know each other to the point where Cam joins his organization. He would probably HAVE to make appointments with Altair to talk about his rough past and self-destructive tendencies in how he relieves stress through sudden bouts of self-harm after balling up all of his stress and sex, but they could hang out otherwise. He doesn’t like to talk about his problems Most of the time Cam strives to be happy and would do his best to impart that to Altair. Though he doesn’t say it he thinks Altair is cool and mysterious like a romance novel man. Out of the two I think that it’s Cam who comes off as more friendly and honest so hopefully that would help? They could go to eat at a cafe after Cam has been exhausted by an 8 hour surgery or when Altair is telling him about upcoming Castle mayhem =3=
just do what i do and make a box w/ a border and call it good lmao
OH MAN PLOTS!! ok, so yea, these guys probs did know each other, idk about college but med school definitely b/c med school lmao. like, obvs they were probs in different specializations since altair specialized in mental illness stuff and i'm assuming cam generalized, but they were probs taking the same latin classes and shit and going :^)))) at some of the stuff they had to learn lmao but also yea, since Cam would have known Altair was going into psych, he might very well have been one of his first patients lmao. (and maybe al lowkey just uh, practiced his therapy voice + expressions on cam lmao)
I do really like the idea of them hanging out outside work tho! Like, Lee Jun Daniel is Al's drinking buddy, but getting to swap patient stories and also just having someone who was under the same rigors trying to get their licenses and stuff is probs super helpful to Altair. Plus obvs Cam is smart so I could see Altair being the type to just randomly push logic puzzles on Cam like, oh cam, if you have a knife and some cheese, what is the least # of cuts you can make with the knife to get eight slices ((rip cam, he has a whole book of this shit)). But also yea, since he's an Admin, Altair is probs more relaxed around him in general and sometimes even lets that bit of dark humor / pessimism he has slip in just because at this point he and Cam have known each other for a while.
Also as a heads up, Altair was uhhhhh a gross nerd in college and only really straightened up / stopped wearing gross glasses and slouching and wearing gross, hobo clothes in like his final year of college so if they met in med school then Cam probs doesn't know about his dark past (and Altair tries very hard to make sure no one ever knows he was not always suave). pls don't find out about his dark past Cam lmao
Vaan Phoenix & Altair Cruz /cries in spanish/ so i'm thinking a lot of things and possibilities with them, especially if Vaan is a member of Castle too! But I honestl;y feel like most are kinda like not too great but I'll throw them out there and see! So what if they have some kind of brother/mentor relationship where he met vaan a looooong time ago and helped him out or maybe vice versa? I'm imagining that vaan's past was full of his parents kinda not being there and being involved in bad things so neglect was also there. Maybe he found refuge in Altair like crashed at his place til he got off his feet? Idk. I imagine Altair is really nice on the inside. Or Vaan's older brother (someone else has to play him lol) gets into it with Altair (or targets him) and is out for him? mmm. Vaan could stand up for Altair or get into it with his brother and somehow end up replacing his brother with Altair? Like, Vaan could be Altair's protege and Vaan doesn't trust many at all but he trusts Altair! Idk man. Something!
oh man what are you talking about, this stuff is great!!
okay, so, you've definitely hit the nail on the head. Altair is secretly a sweetheart on the inside, it's just getting underneath all his old scars - which he has a lot of. In Vaan's case, I think the fact he was neglected by his parents can work in his favor, because Altair's own family heavily abused him as a child and he cut off all contact with them basically as soon as he was able. The abuse he suffered is what led to him eventually forming Castle as a refuge for others like himself, but obviously he also has a lot of built up distrust and dislike (and probably hatred, though he isn't the type to outright admit it) toward regular humans. So yeah, I could definitely see him taking Vaan in - they probably weren't very well off for a while, since Altair had to put most of his money toward med school, but, hell, if you want to take it that way, maybe finding Vaan in such a similar position to himself is what made him decide to form Castle? in which case I could see Vaan having an admin position or even the associate one (though he might not give Vaan that position if they are really close just because obviously the leaders are the first ones to be targeted typically.)
I enjoy the idea of a brother/mentor relationship - I think on Altair's side it'd probably be more mentor just b/c family labels are sort of gross to him thanks to his past abuse, but that clash with Vaan's brother could be the perfect time for him to get through that stuff and start to maybe open up to the idea of Castle as his extended family of sorts lol. Altair isn't the type to get into fights over petty stuff, but if Vaan's brother could hit him where it hurts (saying he's unlovable and deserved his abuse or some shit like that lol), there'd be a lifelong blood feud between him and Altair.
Honestly I just want to see them thread together b/c Altair is so easy-going and Vaan seems a bit bratty and I could see Altair just handling whatever insult Vaan hurtles at him with a smile and a, "Yes, yes, you're so cute tough, I know." lol
So I'm guessing Altair will eventually benefit for buying some bad deets on the government to go public with. Or perhaps building plans to blow something up. Or perhaps some military operations or whatever. Anything that might help Castle achieve their goals. And I could see Judah taking an interest in the young-un for being a breddy gud social engineer.
Any idea on what Altair might want to know that he doesn't already know? Because I'd be down to make a thread providing him with that information. I'm guessing they would antagonize each other. Altair for knowing that Nostra helps out regular humans from time to time and even the government and all that shenanigans. Perhaps they could have some kind of argument about the rightness of their personal actions or something? I dunno lol, I'm just down to make something happen with Altair and Castle.
